Women of the Church of God News

Please continue in prayer for our State President Becky Duncan as she continues her treatment for cancer.  Becky's address is "14514 Dawn Circle, Mabelvale, AR 72103" if you wish to send her a card.

Thank you to the Ladies at the El Dorado church for a wonderful Prayer Retreat on November 7 & 8th.  About
60 women from around the State participated in a time of prayer, fun and fellowship.

December is the time for our Christ Birthday Offering and materials have been sent to all the churches so they
may participate.  Along with the information a separate video was sent showing Missions activities around the world.  Our national goal is $1,600,000 and 1,279 churches participated last year.  A total of about $7,500 was given by the Arkansas churches in 2002.   For those who are not familiar with this special emphasis on Missions it is used by the Church for our World's Ministry programs.  It is essential that we support our 1,200 Missionaries around the world.  Please review the materials that have been sent for additional information.  Please be sure your offering is sent to our State Treasurer, Dollie Launius, 8205 Crystal Valley Cove, Little Rock, AR. 72210 so proper accounting can be made for our state.

Our State WCG Quilt is missing, if you know where it is would you please see that it is returned to the caretakers at Snow Springs?  This quilt was done several years ago and all the WCG locals participated in giving a quilt square, and we need to have it back in our possession.
Annette M. Rickard, State Vice President

STATE CHURCHES

El Dorado – Steve Black paid a special visit to the Baptist Church in Urbana, where a lighted cross was dedicated in loving memory of his mother, Iberia Black, who recently went to be with the Lord.  It stands at the church entrance, and is meant to remind people of her efforts to shine the light of Christ to her community.  The Youth Group recently held a massive rummage sale, and earned around $500.  “Blessed Assurance,” a male quartet from Monroe, held a Thanksgiving Sunday concert here.  We are pleased to welcome Amanda Duran, from Junction City, our new nursery attendant.

Little Rock Eagle Point recently baptized 3 new believers:  Brittney Bell, Kris Thomason, and Dusty Thomason.  Eight members of the church made a trip to Atlanta, Georgia, to take part in the Catalyst Convention, hosted by the INJOY Group.

Little Rock First Church had a Thanksgiving celebration dinner after the Nov. 23rd morning service.  It was followed by their first annual “Turkey Bowl” flag football game.  An anonymous donor gave a baby grand piano to the church.  Dustin Sells, youth minister, was the speaker for the recent Fall Youth Retreat.

Texarkana Twin City Church has experienced an exciting jump in attendance lately.  Rebecca Roper is teaching a new Youth Class.  A recent Sunday night service featured singing, playing the flute, sign language, and a play about David and Goliath.

Crossett surprised Sandy Adams with a birthday party in September.  Bradley and Melanie Walker are proud parents of Autumn McKenzie, born in October.  Roy Dobbs recently held a revival for the Crossett Church.  Congratulations also to Joni Lynn Walker and Jeremy Snow, who were recently married.  The church has gotten into the Christmas spirit with a Christmas Cantata on Dec. 14, followed by a carry-in dinner?and they will present a Live Nativity on Dec. 22-23.

Van Buren has started a video series, “Bringing up Boys,” by Focus on the Family.  The singing group “Inheritance” ministered to the church during a recent Roundup Sunday.  Hannah Tilbury was presented to the Lord in a Baby Dedication service.  Kibler Rd. and the Northwest AR Church joined together for a Unity Service and pie supper.  And there was a Kiddie Karnaval Oct. 31.  The Youth went to the U of A for the annual “Midnight Madness.”

Traskwood Holy Ridge had a Ladies Night at the home of Dian Smith.  There was a Men’s Prayer Breakfast and Community Visitation.  Several individuals were involved in a Church Clean-up Program.  The youth are working on various projects, so they can make a trip to Branson.  An annual Christmas dinner will be held at Western Sizzlin.  And the Church has received a new sound system.

   SPECIAL LUNCH MEETING

An important meeting took place at Ryan’s Restaurant in El Dorado.  Those attending were Tom Lockett (Harrison), Wendall Abbott & son (Gurdon), John Lymer (Kingsland), and Lee Thomas (Prescott & Strong).  These men met to get acquainted, share their heart-felt goals for increased fellowship among the churches, and make plans for future activities together.  Following through on that commitment, Brother Abbott and the Lymers went to a ministers’ fellowship on Dec. 6, at Brother Thomas’ church in Prescott.  John says, “The Church of God in Arkansas will be all the stronger when we stand united as one body.”
